What is Crafting U?
Crafting U started as a summer camp aimed at teaching young people in Caddo Parish how to program computers. While navigating the online world looking for strong resources to supplement the class time, we quickly realized there was a need for high-quality, well-supported digital content.
The next year, we unveiled our new Programming curriculum in Caddo Parish, putting nearly 200 students through their first coding experiences in the first year. Since then, we’ve expanded within Caddo and to DeSoto Parish, as well as expanding our course library.
We’d love for you to be the next Crafting U success story!
Who is Crafting U?
Crafting U was started by a Caddo Parish teacher, Billy Hanisee, who partnered with a local tech entrepreneur, Keith Hanson, to bring high-quality technical education to their area. About a year after the company was formed, Keith was recruited by the City of Shreveport to serve as its first Chief Technology Officer. While still involved with the overall vision of Crafting U, Keith was forced to step back from the day-to-day operations.
Since then, we have recruited one of our very own tech students, Seth Lamont, as our technical guru and programming expert. Seth has won several local competitions for coding and game design, and has improved our curriculum by drawing on his own experiences as a self-taught programmer.
What can Crafting U do for me?
Crafting U wants to make it easier for your school to transition to digital learning. Recent events have forced us all to reconsider and rethink the way we’ve always done things, and education is no exception. At Crafting U, we’ve spent nearly five years perfecting the art of virtual learning, and we’d like to bring that expertise to you!
Crafting U employs expert teachers, technologists, and “Learning Accelerators” to connect your students to the entire world of skills and knowledge available to them. Your school can teach anything, and we will provide the curriculum, projects, and expert input your students need – virtually!
